[Ivy Faith Jonas]

Ivy Jonas ended up waking up in her room getting blinded by the sun beaming through her curtains as her alarm sound beeped down her ears, she hit it off with her hands getting up to collect her clean underwear, clothes, a towel and her box from her room towards the bathroom, she knew her brother was still sleeping. Only throughout her adopted families house it was her and her brother. She locked the door of the bathroom and put the shower water on, as she peeled her pjay top off and opened up her little box, she took out her clean cloth and razor and pulled up her bandage at the top of her left arm as she dug the razor across a clean space deeply, as the blood dripped down her arm, the patterns carved her skin.

Smiling to the pain she let the blood run for a while before cleaning her arm and getting under the water of the shower, the water ran into the new scars which stung but her body liked it, she was used to it. After her shower she got herself shy then dressed before returning to her room, sorting her hair and makeup out to hide everything away from anyone who saw who she was, secrets is what was hiding right inside of Ivy, nothing was ever told nor shown it was up to her to keep quiet. After she was dressed and ready to go she grabbed her bag, note book and her car keys before locking the door to drive to school. Where she stopped off at Starbucks buying a banana and mint frappuccino then parked her car in the school car park.

As she arrived at school she looked around the school campus to find a private place to sit, coming up to her normal spot under a tree which was shaded by large branches which filled out the beautiful tree. Sitting under the tree with her back against the tree bark she had her feet out in front of herself, opening up her bag which always had her little box inside of it with her emergency razor that no one ever knew she had. She took her purple ipod touch from her bag and her book, placing in her earphones pressing play as the first song came on was Taylor Swift, she smiled lightly as her eyes scammed over the words through her book as she read silently to herself on her own, she was lonely she really didnt have any friends but she had a huge crush.

She didn't get off the kitchen floor where her father left her last night, for a while. After debating whether she should take the chance of missing school, she got up, she was not ready for a morning helping of bruises and/or broken bones.


She dragged herself up the stairs to the shower for a long awaited washing. She quietly walked up the stairs on her toes, afraid her father would wake up and beat her for trying to shower, he didn't let her because he said it was for nice little girls not 17 year old whores. She didn't know why her dad called her those names but she didn't care, it was better then hits, and it wasn't true anyway so it didn't matter. She sighed as the hot water hit her back, she washed her hair and got out after 5 minutes. When she got out she wrapped herself in a towel and started putting on the loads of make-up she would need to cover up the bruises and the one burn she had on her face. She got dressed, grabbed her backpack and ran to school, she didn't have a car or a bike.


When she arrived she looked around the campus and found her best, and only, friend Ivy sitting under a tree. She smiled, and walked briskly up to her and plopped down beside her. Hey Ivy, how are you today? She asked, not noticing the ear phones residing in her best friends ears. She sighed as she looked up at the sun.

Reading her book her eyes started to close after a while, she began to rest her eyes then re-open them smiling and got back to reading. Ivy enjoyed reading it was in her comfort, like she was protecting herself from everyone else so they could never know the real reason of her fears or pain. She read another 8 chapters before she stopped and placed her book back in her bag with her hovering hand over the little box which stored her razor, no she couldn’t do it there not at school outside even though she was usually alone apart from her best friend Adrianna.

Keeping secrets away from her best friend came with great difficulty, it was painful to think of how she could keep this away, but times like this shouldn’t be shared. Ivy was always there for her friends, for anyone she wanted to be happy to not hide anything away; life wasn’t as simple as that. The wind blew past her, following her long hair she sighed then groaned as her clothes rubbed against the red deep painful cuts engraved into her skin, her eyes flickered up to see her best friend sit beside her.

A small smile came on her face, Adrianna looked happy yet scared she bit her lip and took out her earphones ”Hey Aid” she smiled, hiding the secrets ”Im fine and you?” she asked her, she didn’t look to good. Her eyes scanned her body but nothing was easy to tell, Ivy looked away and then at some students who were across the grass talking, she just smiled at Adrianna wrapping her earphones around her ipod and placing it into her bag.

Adrianna rubbed her hurt arm while she waited for Ivy, I'm fine, just a little tired and sore. She sighed and started walking, she wished she could tell Ivy the truth but it might cause problems between her and her dad and between herself and her dad, it would mean more hits or even worse. She shook her head, clearing the horrible thoughts from her head, she wanted today to be better, despite the morning.


So, she dragged the word out,What class do you have first period Ivy? She wondered if they would meet up with Ivy's brother Ryan while walking to Ivy's class. She knew it was against every best friend law out there, that you're not supposed to like said best friend's brother, but she could'nt help it. Whenever she sees him it's like a force is pulling her towards him and it hurts that she can't tell her best friend.


She could, but she didn't know what would happen if she did, and she really didn't want to ruin their friendship by her messing up. Adrianna already had secrets kept from Ivy and if she let one of them go, it could end disasterous.

Ivy kept her eyes directly on the students in front of her across the grass, she sighed when a girl and boy walked pass and stopped and started kissing and hugging each other. She felt jealous a little she has never had a boyfriend in her life nor ever kissed a boy, she never told anyone that either or told anyone about her crush that was hard to hide, she acted so clumsy and shy in front of him. However there was no way he would ever like her back, he was a jock, popular with lots of friends, Ivy had Adrianna that was it. Her best friend.

Hearing what her best friend was saying she nodded with a short smile she was happy that her best friend was okay "Are you sure?" however she didn't believe it "Anything you want to talk about? is things okay at home?" she asked her again and gave a look to her friend that meant she could tell her anything. "Im here for you, you know that Adrianna your like a sister to me" she smiled again faintly, how come she never gives smiles with feeling? Happy smiles?

"I have Art" she sighed "What about you?" Ivy added then bit her lip as she stretched her arms out infront of her then scratched on her top for her arm as she winced, thats where she cut this morning, she could fell the cut becoming open with the blood appearing, she bit her lip but didn't do or say anything, the blood shown on her light blue top, she tried to hide it. It reminded her of what her real dad did to her, it feared her knowing he was still out there in the world, how he could just come back and do it again to her.

Adrianna sighed when a couple passing by started kissing in front of them, she turned to watch Ivy but noticed that she looked sad, and another emotion she couldn't describe at the moment.


Aid felt bad after hearing Ivy explain that she could tell her anything, she really wanted to tell her but she rellly wanted a best friend. Even if she did tell her, Ivy didn't know what her dad was capable of. She did notice that after she explained that, Ivy had a small faint smile on her face, but it didn't look happy. She went to tell Ivy what was really wrong but she smelt a rusty odor coming from somewhere.


She turned and noticed it was blood seeping through her friends shirt. Ivy, what the hell happened? Adrianna never swore, only when something suprised her. She rushed to her and pulled her to the ground in a sitting position.Ivy you really need this checked out, want to go to the nurse on campus or do you want me to check it? Adrianna had a lot of experiance with first aid because of all the cuts and bruises she got, so this would be nothing to fix. She waved her hand in front of her face,she looked in shockHey Ives, are you okay?

Ivy stared at her blooded sleeve for a moment, taking long deep breaths in and out scared to say or do anything. She felt Adrianna pull her down onto the floor to sit next to her in front of her, she stared at her best friend her eyes watering, tears fell from her eyes. She gasped as Adrianna pulled at her wrists, she winced her eyes tightened together in pain. "Aid stop it hurts"[/] she said fast crying pulling back shaking.
Taking more deep breaths with Adrianna's grip on her wrists she listened to what her best friend was saying how she spoke to her, she swore which she never she knew that she cared. It was time to tell someone the truth she had to. "I don't to get it looked at, they will expell me from school. Adrianna I need to tell you something, my past and everything I know your my best friend but I didn't tell you it all" Ivy told her simply shaking again, her tears runned her makeup of her face "can we skip this morning please?" she asked in hope.

Adrianna gasped and pulled back, she didn't mean to grab her hard. Ives I'm sorry. She started crying when she noticed her friend's face crumpled in pain. She didn't know about Ivy's past because she never told Adrianna, she never felt the need to ask because she never told Ivy her past so it was fine between them, but not now.


She panicked when Ivy asked if the could skip this morning. Usually the school called home when a student was absent or late a lot. She really didn't want to take the chance of her father getting the call, but her friend's problems were more important then her own. So what if she got beat? She probably had it coming anyways, her dad was right, she was a horrible person.


Sure IvesAdrianna replied, but she couldn't hide the look of terror and pain flash across her face. Terror for what was coming when she went home, and pain for her friend. Where do you want to go Hunns?

Ivy looked at Adrianna who stared right back at Ivy, she knew she seemed like she has lost her mind but she needed to tell someone it scared her that her farther was still out in the world, it scared her that she really had to hide all her feelings the fear haunted her mind it was hard to keep the truth away. When she heard what Adrianna said she nodded wiping away her tears, her best friend was scared she saw by the way she acted towards the way Ivy broke down and pulled away. Ivy nodded and lifted her sleeve up from her wrist which was bleeding showing many and many scars that were red, new, old and deep into her skin.

Tears fell from her eyes she looked around them quickly making no one was close and she calmed down. "here is fine, just for now" she told Aid and bit her lip and looked down at the grass in between her fingers taking more deep breaths. "when I was younger, before I was adopted something happened, it made everything worse the way everything was it was hard to cope, I was 5 years old when something happened" she began and stopped, Ivy has never ever spoken to anyone about her real parents or about her adoption most people never knew about it or anything to do with her life.

Adrianna stared at her best friend's face, looking for any indication of what she was feeling right now, but couldn't find anything. She gasped as she looked down to Ivy's arms, all red and cut up like a chopping board. Ivy,, she choked back tears, What happened hun?Adrianna listened to Ivy try to explain what happened. She didn't know what could've happened that would result in Ivy cutting herself. Ives, you can tell me, I won't tell anyone.She tried to hold back her tears.



Was it your brother?It was a pointless question but it needed to be asked.Please, tell me, and after I need to tell you something important.She pleaded for her to tell Aid. She hoped it wasn't what was happening to herself, someone abusing her, but it might.



Adrianna herself has cut an arm or two, she understood it was wrong but it let out pain. but she stopped after her father found out and beat her for it. She saw something flash through her friend's eyes, but couldn't decipher it.

Her eyes stared at the ground as she croaked out a few jumbled up words looking at Adiranna again she watched her best friends reaction to the scars on her arms "no it wasn't Ryan, no he looks after me but he doesn't know!" she said "no one knows about this" Ivy told her honestly, her friends eyes began to water she lent forward and hugged her carefully not to hurt herself, it was about time that she let thse feelings out. When Adrianna said she had to tell her something too she nodded "I know I can tell you anything and you know you can tell me anything" Ivy said to her.

"When I was 5 years old when I lived with my real parents, my dad was always so close to me, he stayed it the room with me when I was getting changed, anything like that he would come into the bathroom when I was washing" she took a deep breath and her eyes were watering "my mum was out one night and my dad came into my room, he layed me down on the bed and started to kiss me, he took my clothes off me..." she stopped and was crying a lot now she was breathing heavily "he...he...he raped me" she told her "after that I was put up for adoption then from then on I was so self conscience I started to..." she looked down and lifted her wrist up to show her, instead of saying it out loud.

Adrianna was glad it wasn't Ryan abusing her, if it was, he would suffer, even if she loved him. She quieted her sniffles after her friend hesitantly hugged her, and settled down for the story Ivy was about to tell her.


She gasped in horror of what was done to Ivy, and pulled her into a tight hug, mindful of the cuts. Ivy,hunny, look at me, She pulled her friend's chin up so that she looked straight into her eyesI'm sorry it happened, but there is other ways to let out pain. By doing this your only letting him hurt you more. I'm very sorry and I know what it's like to have a monster for a dad, or formerly, but you can't let him control you. I use to cut too, but it doesn't help you mentally, it may feel like it but it gets you addicted.


Adrianna grimaced in recognition of what she just told Ivy, she implied that her father was also a monster and that she cut, but Ivy didn't know what happened at home, or she would have to know now.

Wiping away her tears her friend felt sympathy for her, she felt bad for everything. When Adrianna grabbed her chin to look up at her face she nodded listening to what she was saying to her. "I want to tell Ryan, he knows something is wrong" Ivy told her bitting her lip down hard she stopped and stared at Adrianna going stiff at what her friend said. "you used to? Why didn't you tell me? Its killing me, I've been doing it since I was about 8 years old!" she said "I felt so alone, I never thought I could speak to anyone about it" Ivy told her.


After what Adrianna said she kept her eyes on her "Adrianna, what happened? Tell me? What happened!" she asked her friend really worried for her she stared at her, she never knew how most bestfriends could have secrets hiding away from eachother usually friends tell eachother everything, she always knew something was hiding away to say, both of them holding onto things that they always kept inside of them.

Adrianna nodded at what her friend proposed,I think you should tell him Ives, but only if you're ready. She knew it was coming when Ivy asked her what happened but she couldn't refrain from stiffening and cringing. Well, you know how my mom died when I was seven? My dad was pretty torn up about it, he said that it was my fault she died. So he went and got dr..drunk a..lotShe started sobbing quietly.


He hit me the first time he got drunk, but then he hasn't stopped since. She was hyperventilating by now, she hadn't even opened those memories to herself in a long time, so it was still hard processing it. I started cutting myself after my father started cutting me with his razors and.. he..branded me.She let out in one quick breath. That's why I never wear bikinis.



Adrianna felt bad about keeping all of this away from her bff but it was the only way. She wondered, sadly, if she was too fucked up for Ivy and her brother. Aid was pretty sure she would never let her brother go out with her now.

Ivy nodded at what Adrianna said about telling Ryan, she had to tell him soon before she will break down, her eyes watched Adrianna as she told Ivy what her dad was like, Ivy gasped and moved to put her arm around Adrianna, she knew that she felt un comfy when Ivy touches her now, maybe she shouldn't of told her, her past. Ivy felt her hand hover and soothed her best friend. "Adrianna you should of told me, we shouldn't hide these from eachother, everything will be alright! Aid move in with me and my family, they wouldn't mind" Ivy told Aid, she knew Ryan and his parents wouldn't mind they would let her stay there.

Ivy hugged her tighter not hurting anyone of them, she made sure no one was around any of them because these things should be kept quiet and not told to anyone "Stay over tonight, you can stay over as long as you want, you know your welcome, Ryan would like it too" she smiled to Aid. "you can't stay at home anymore, your not going near your dad!" she said to her in a serious voice, she didn't want anything happening to her.
